Rules Committee recommends a slate of local appointments to advisory boards and commissions

The Rules Committee spent a large portion of its Dec. 9 meeting considering nominations to a range of city advisory bodies and boards and moved multiple recommendations to the full Board.

Key recommendations and outcomes included forwarding the mayor’s nomination of Juliet Ellis to the Public Utilities Commission (consumer seat) after testimony from Ellis and supporters, recommending confirmation of Helen Nigg to the Treasure Island Development Authority following questions about how she would represent current island residents, and approving Diane Robinson to continue on the Assessment Appeals Board after an unexpected late appearance and public support.

Other committee actions included recommending three candidates for the Ballot Simplification Committee, forwarding nominees to the Market & Octavia Community Advisory Committee after discussion of neighborhood representation, continuing the children’s collaborative task force item to gather more applicants, and advancing two Urban Forestry Council appointments while holding one seat pending the mayor’s appointments. The committee also dealt with applicants for the Biodiesel Access Task Force; Shannon Devine was recommended for appointment while staff encouraged continued engagement from other strong applicants.

Where applicants were absent the committee sometimes held items open; several motions were recorded as "forwarded as committee report" or "continued to the call of the chair," and clerks were asked to notify applicants of outcomes. Most recommendations will go to the full Board on the calendar dates noted by the clerk.
