Rules Committee forwards Small Business Commission pick, tables fellow nominee

The Rules Committee considered two mayoral nominations to the Small Business Commission and moved to forward the nomination of Kathleen Dooley with a recommendation while tabling Nicholas Goldman for future consideration.

Kathleen Dooley introduced herself as president of the North Beach Merchants Association and described 25 years as a merchant and experience helping small businesses with ADA compliance and multilingual outreach. "Anyone who applies for a business license or renews their license needs to be fully informed of their need to comply with the ADA requirements," Dooley said, outlining plans for outreach materials in multiple languages.

Nicholas Goldman described his civic volunteer work, including service on the Sunshine Ordinance Task Force, and argued that small business is central to local economic recovery. The committee heard public support for Dooley from neighborhood representatives. After discussion, the committee voted (as a committee report) to move item 9 (Dooley’s appointment, term ending 01/06/2010) forward and to table item 10 (Goldman) with an expressed interest in reconsidering him later in the calendar year.

The committee’s action will be transmitted to the full Board of Supervisors; no final vote on the nominations occurred at the Rules Committee meeting.
