Rules Committee forwards a slate of advisory appointments and reappointments to the full board

Supervisors agreed to forward those applicants who appeared at the hearing (including Adina Safer, Natasha Hain, Rebecca Kroll, Steve Mitchell, Laurie Poston, Judy Mackey, Cammy Blackstone, Matt Middlebrook and Sandy Blackstone) to the full board and to hold remaining seats open to recruit a more diverse candidate pool. Supervisor Amiano emphasized efforts to recruit candidates from communities of color and offered his office’s assistance for outreach.
Item 3 (SOMA Community Stabilization Fund Community Advisory Committee) with two applicants was sent forward with recommendation; Item 4 confirmed a motion to forward the reappointment of Rick Swig to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency after Swig and commissioners described the work and responsibilities of redevelopment. The committee moved forward Grama Weada’s appointment to the Aging Advisory Council.
For Item 6 (Immigrant Rights Commission), the committee confirmed Vera Hale, Alberto Alexander and Rael Silva and continued consideration of Alejandro Ponce de Leon to Dec. 4. Applicants described priorities including the sanctuary movement, an ID card initiative and proposed amendments to the Equal Access to Services ordinance.
On Item 7 (Urban Forestry Council), the committee discussed seat qualifications and arborist representation. After hearing applicants and staff about seat eligibility, the committee assigned several applicants to specific seats and recommended those appointments while leaving additional seats open for later recruitment.
Motions to forward these appointments were made and carried without objection in committee. Several supervisors noted the need to balance technical qualifications (for example, certified arborists for certain Urban Forestry seats) with broader community representation.
The committee’s actions will be reported to the full Board of Supervisors for final confirmation.
