Rules Committee forwards Kendall Goh’s nomination to Board of Appeals after broad endorsements

Kendall Goh told the Rules Committee she would bring decades of legal experience and neighborhood service to the Board of Appeals, which she described as "the last stop" for residents seeking administrative remedies.
Goh said she has practiced law for more than 20 years, spent much of her career in death-penalty defense and worked with the State Public Defender’s Office. She noted service on the Northwest Bernal Heights Design Review Board and described a problem-solving style she said would be useful on the Board of Appeals.
Supporters filled the committee’s public-comment periods: neighborhood activists, former colleagues in capital-defense work and community leaders testified that she is thorough, fair and experienced. Speakers included Terry Veil, Denise Garipas, Tim Broz and Margo Gary, among others, who recalled Goh’s legal skills, willingness to collaborate and neighborhood engagement.
Supervisors asked about Goh’s general land-use philosophy and experience handling competing interests; Goh said she did not have a fixed ideology but would assess each case on its merits. After questions and endorsements, the committee voted to forward the nomination to the full Board with recommendation so the Board of Appeals could regain quorum and resume hearings.
The nomination will next be considered at the full Board of Supervisors.
