The Rules Committee recommended that Rebecca Delgado Roteman (identified in testimony as representing the Academy of Art University) be appointed to vacancy No.16 on the Graffiti Advisory Board.
Roteman described the academy’s partnership with the Department of Public Works on graffiti abatement: recruiting student volunteers to paint out graffiti, organizing large volunteer cleanups, participating in the Graffiti Watch program and proposing youth outreach, public‑art programs and education to distinguish vandalism from legal mural work.
Merle Goldstone, a Department of Public Works staffer and Graffiti Advisory Board liaison, told the committee the academy had been a reliable partner in cleanups. Mohammed Nuru of DPW said Roteman "has brought a huge number of people to our cleanups" and supported plans to use academy students in educational campaigns.
Scores of community members, nonprofit leaders and academy colleagues gave testimony supporting Roteman’s appointment. The committee approved a motion recommending her nomination without objection.
The committee’s recommendation will be transmitted to the full Board of Supervisors for final action.
