Rules Committee advances multiple appointments, including SweatFree advisory seat and police reappointment

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors Rules Committee on Thursday moved multiple appointment items to the full Board, acting on neighborhood advisory panels, public-authority seats and two mayoral nominations.
For Item 1, Supervisor Tom Ammiano recommended Jamie Crook for the SweatFree Procurement Advisory Group vacancy. Crook, an attorney who said she represents low-wage workers and has community-organizing experience, was advanced by the committee after the other applicant arrived late. The committee took the recommendation without objection.
Item 2, a hearing to appoint three members to the Home Support Services Public Authority, included applicant Alice Wong, who described more than a decade as an IHSS consumer and recent service and research work at UCSF. The committee forwarded three incumbent candidates to the full Board with recommendation.
Item 3 covered two Bicycle Advisory Committee seats. Applicants—including Mark Austinpiller and Jake Wegman—described frequent bike use and interest in safety and the relationship between housing and transportation. The committee moved both nominees forward with recommendation.
Item 4 reappointments to the Commission on the Aging were recommended by the committee after applicants Lila McCarthy and Anna Maria Perini described their site-inspection work and advocacy for seniors.
On Item 5 the committee considered the mayor’s nomination of Rahm Miguel to the Planning Commission. Miguel described decades of local civic involvement and discussed affordable housing targets, “springing conditions” for community benefits and the role of commissions. Supervisors questioned him on affordability percentages and community benefit funding; the committee forwarded the nomination to the full Board and tabled a related item per procedural direction.
Item 7 was a motion confirming the mayoral reappointment of Thomas Mazuko to the Police Commission; Mazuko summarized his law-enforcement background and recent commission work and received a forward recommendation from the committee.
All forwarding motions recorded in the hearing were taken without objection and will appear on a future full-Board calendar.
