Rules Committee backs reappointments to Redevelopment Agency, citing community ties and enforcement focus

The Rules Committee recommended reappointment of incumbent commissioners to the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency after extended questioning and public testimony.

London Breed, reappointed for a four‑year term ending Sept. 3, 2011, described her roots in the Western Addition and work on Treasure Island and neighborhood development. Breed said she has at times voted against staff recommendations when community interests warranted it and said she sees redevelopment decisions as long‑term commitments that should reflect local input. She told supervisors she wanted to ensure redevelopment delivers jobs and accessible housing and told the committee she weighed accessibility and community hiring when diverging from staff proposals.

Dar (Darcyne/Darsen in the record) Singh, also an incumbent, highlighted long service and a focus on affordable housing, saying the agency has produced thousands of affordable units during his tenure and that he considers community input important in selection and contracting decisions. Supporters ranged from neighborhood residents and local nonprofits to labor representatives who emphasized the need for commissioners who press developers on workforce and contracting compliance.

Supervisors praised both nominees’ community engagement and experience and moved the reappointments to the full Board with recommendation.
