Committee forwards Ted Bamberg’s nomination for Library Citizens Advisory Committee to full Board

Supervisor Tom Ammiano, chair of the Rules Committee, opened the meeting and the clerk read Item 1: a hearing to appoint one member to the Library Citizens Advisory Committee. Applicant Ted Bamberg introduced himself as a candidate to represent San Francisco’s seniors and described his volunteer work and desire to ensure the San Francisco Public Library System meets seniors’ written, oral and visual needs. "I was thrilled when the chair and the vice chair of this committee asked me to consider filling a vacancy," Bamberg said, explaining he had filled out the application and wanted to bring seniors’ perspectives to the LCAC.

Sue Coughton, chair of the Library Citizens Advisory Committee, told the committee the LCAC would like to be interviewed by the Library Commission before the commission finalizes appointments and voiced support for Bamberg, noting his Project Read volunteer work and participation in LCAC meetings. Other public commenters who volunteer with Project Read and neighborhood organizations also urged the supervisors to appoint Bamberg and cited his familiarity with the committee’s minutes and annual report work.

After public comment, Supervisor Tom Ammiano moved to forward the nomination to the full Board with the Rules Committee’s recommendation; the motion was adopted without objection. The committee did not take a final Board vote at the meeting; the nomination will appear before the full Board for final consideration.
