Rules Committee advances several nominations, a Chamber gift acceptance and lease‑notice ordinance

The committee recommended reappointment of Audrey Joseph to the Entertainment Commission after colleagues praised her industry experience and work on neighborhood issues; Item 6 was advanced with recommendation and the related Item 7 was tabled. Grant Davies, nominated for the St. Luke’s seat on the San Francisco Health Authority, described his role as senior vice president of operations at California Pacific Medical Center; because he lives outside San Francisco (San Rafael) the committee noted the appointment requires a residency waiver.
On Item 9, the committee considered accepting airfare, accommodations and conference fees valued at $16,800 from the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce for four city officials to join the chamber’s trip to Boston. Supervisor Peskin said the city has historically accepted such gifts and now documents recipients publicly; a member of the public objected that accepting funds from groups that lobby city government appears improper. The committee agreed to forward the gift acceptance as a committee report.
Finally, the committee advanced an ordinance (Item 11) to require the city to give not less than 30 days’ notice to adjacent owners and interested parties when the San Francisco Unified School District terminates or allows expiration of a lease for property the city uses to serve the public. Planning staff and SFUSD representatives said they support clearer notification procedures.
All items were forwarded to the full Board of Supervisors for final action.
