"I am honored to be here today, and I am humbled by the mayor's decision to place my name in nomination," she said, describing her work on brownfields and urban revitalization and saying she would support port projects that are "environmentally sensitive, socially equitable, and fiscally prudent." Supervisors asked about time commitments and the practical challenges of aging piers; Shachofsky said she had discussed the obligations with her board and staff and was prepared to serve.
The committee also moved forward the reappointment of Michael (Mike) Hartman. Hartman, who serves as a labor representative on the commission, thanked the mayor for the renomination and framed his record around protecting working waterfront jobs while supporting waterfront revitalization. He highlighted labor support and described ongoing interest in pier reconstruction and possible new uses at Pier 27, including a cruise terminal concept.
Public commenters and organizations submitted endorsements for both nominees. Bridge Housing, the Trust for Public Land and CCLEAR submitted letters supporting Shachofsky's expertise on redevelopment and brownfield issues. Labor groups including the Masters, Maids & Pilots and the Building Trades spoke in favor of Hartman, urging continued attention to pier reconstruction and the working waterfront.
Next steps: both nominations will be considered by the full Board of Supervisors. The committee action was procedural and did not include a recorded roll-call vote at this hearing.
