The board received the initial quarterly report on the district’s strategic plan, which district staff framed as the start of regular updates to the board. Presenters said 67 stakeholders participated in planning activities and the plan centers on four priorities: academic excellence; family and community engagement; professional culture; and the student experience.
The report listed concrete action steps the district has begun or will pursue this year: developing a portrait of a graduate with building-level leadership teams, creating common assessments and assessment-mapping, implementing consistent MTSS progress-monitoring, providing targeted professional development including generative AI orientation for staff, researching career-exposure and internship opportunities, refining hiring rubrics and anti-bias interviewer training, and exploring district-run pre-K feasibility (noting significant cost implications).
Board members asked for clarification about the significance of 'start-of-day' routines under the professional-culture priority; the presenter responded that morning interactions (bus greetings, staff engagement) shape student readiness and are incorporated into implementation work. The district said the MTSS plan was recently approved and will drive consistent progress-monitoring practices across grades.
The presenter emphasized this is a go-deeper year rather than launching new initiatives: “We are not doing any new initiatives. We are going deeper with the work we have been doing,” and said the district will continue to report quarterly and provide data presentations when available.
Next steps: building leadership teams (BLTs) will work on graduate portrait work in September–October, the district will continue PD rollouts, and the board will receive subsequent quarterly updates and supporting data.
