A motion to approve a $6,000 salary plus expenses was read into the record, followed by exchange during roll call. Rather than adopt the increase, a later motion to send the salary request back to the finance committee for review carried; the board requested written proposals with concrete funding sources and a clearer estimate of ongoing costs before any final action.
The board did not eliminate the elected office. Commissioners said statutory options such as transferring drain duties to a road commission exist only under specific population thresholds and are not applicable to Delta County at this time. Next steps: finance committee will reexamine funding options and return with a detailed plan.
