City staff recommended awarding Phase 8 of the Woodland Acres sidewalk project to Lanyak Development Company for $405,288.10, citing federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) requirements that disqualified two lower bids.
"These are federal funds that we're using," Speaker 7 said, explaining stricter bid requirements tied to CDBG compliance. He told council the package covers roughly 4,800 square yards of sidewalk along Woodland Drive, Summit Wood Drive, Summit Creek Drive and Stonewood Drive and that staff received eight bids this year.
Council members asked whether the recommended contractor had references and whether the project leaves carryover funds for future work. Speaker 7 said Lanyak provided solid references and that the city has funding from 2023–2025 plus a carryover that will leave a balance for 2026.
Staff described the project as completing the main pedestrian “spines” in Woodland Acres to connect neighborhoods to Cobb Parkway, Kennesaw due west and Pine Mountain. The council approved the resolution by consent.
Next steps: staff will finalize contract award and scheduling; funds and CDBG compliance remain conditions of the contract award.
