TUCKER, Ga. — The City Council on June 9 approved a $75,000 contract to commission a site‑specific sculpture for the Tuckertown Green, selecting Phil Proctor’s design from a committee of community representatives and art professionals.
Planning and arts staff described a selection process that included a call for artists, follow‑up commission solicitations and on‑site review by a selection committee containing members of the Tucker Arts Alliance, Friends of Tucker Parks, Friends of Tucker Trails, a downtown property owner and an art consultant. The committee recommended Phil Proctor’s vertical steel sculpture that will incorporate four historic railroad tracks from Tucker and suspended “TKR” letters in satin stainless steel.
The contract award is $75,000; staff said the city has identified and secured donated historic tracks from a local business, reducing material costs and tying the work to local railroad history. The sculpture will sit on a pedestal allowing ADA clearance and seating, be uplit, and be landscaped with a backdrop fence; the timing was presented as on schedule for installation when the Town Green opens.
Council voted to approve contract C2025‑PO25‑ten53 and thanked the selection committee for a deliberative process. Staff said minor tweaks to the preliminary design are possible as the commission moves forward.
