Guilderland schedules Dec. 9 forum to gather input on cell‑phone‑free school policy

Superintendent Marie Wiles said the session will be an "information gathering session for the school community and would help inform a cell phone free policy that the Board of Education is considering." The meeting will be live streamed and recorded, and the district will invite community members to submit questions via a Google form that was distributed to shape the panel discussion.
Panelists slated to attend include David Blanchard, identified in the meeting as the superintendent of Schoharie Central School (a district that implemented a cell‑phone‑free policy in the 2022‑23 academic year); a Schoharie High School student; a Guilderland Police Department representative; a licensed and certified school psychologist and middle‑school teacher from the district; a Guilderland High School teacher; and a high‑school administrator. After the panel the district plans to launch a thought‑exchange to gather additional community input on the draft policy considerations.
The forum is intended to inform board policy direction; no policy vote was scheduled for the Nov. 19 meeting.
