The Wantagh Union Free School District board on Sept. 19 approved a slate of routine agenda items — including minutes, financial reports, budget transfers, personnel approvals and several contracts — and heard a public question about a vacated facility that the district said is under technical review.
The board moved to approve the minutes and followed with separate motions and unanimous voice approvals ('Aye') for financial reports, budget transfers and personnel items. Under contractual and other authorizations, members voted to approve multiple agreements listed on the agenda, including a revocable permit agreement, athletic trainer support, related service and security alarm service agreements, and a memorandum of agreement; a later item concerning receipt of a track center was also approved.
Under new business the board approved Committee on Special Education and preschool education recommendations.
During public comment a resident who identified herself only as Azenka asked for an update on the district's former lease with "We Friends": "I just had a question about the about We Friends ... Is it gonna be a preschool? Is it gonna be an office building?" Superintendent John McNamara replied that the lease expired in August, the building has been vacated, architects and engineers are evaluating the facility, it is not currently leased, and the district will provide an update on that building as part of next month's facilities report.
Votes at a glance - Approval of minutes: motion made and approved by voice vote ('Aye'). - Financial reports: moved and approved by voice vote ('Aye'). - Budget transfers: moved and approved by voice vote ('Aye'). - Personnel approvals (F1, F2): moved and approved by voice vote ('Aye'). - Contractual authorizations (G1–G5) and related items: moved and approved by voice vote ('Aye'). - G6 (receipt of track center): moved and approved by voice vote ('Aye'). - Committee on Special Education and preschool recommendations (I1): moved and approved by voice vote ('Aye'). - Adjournment motion: moved, seconded, and approved by voice vote ('Aye').
The board did not record individual roll-call tallies or name movers/seconders in the public record for these motions; outcomes shown in the transcript are voice approvals recorded as 'Aye.' The district will include the status and next steps for the 'We Friends' building in the October facilities/capital project update.
