Wantagh Union Free School District officials honored student-athletes at the board meeting, celebrating a fall season that included three county championships and a Long Island title.
“We were thrilled to have, many of our student athletes here tonight,” Superintendent John McNamara said, praising the teams’ playoff runs and calling their achievements "truly an amazing accomplishment." Director of Athletics Miss Keane followed, saying, "I could not be more proud of the accomplishments, both on the individual and team, levels."
Miss Keane listed individual honorees across fall sports, naming all‑county and all‑state selections and special award winners. Among those recognized were Juliet Azaridi and Sadie Reese in girls volleyball; Daniel Donahue in boys volleyball; Cole Spinelli and Dylan Martini among football awardees; and members of the girls soccer squad named Nassau County champions. The board invited teams to a staged photo and provided tokens of appreciation and certificates; a separate recognition event is planned in January for those who could not attend.
Coaches and staff were also acknowledged. McNamara singled out coaches such as Coach Sachs and Coach Polo for their roles in preparing teams, and Miss Keane noted assistant coach awards in cheer and other staff honors.
The honors segment concluded with a reminder that photos and tokens would be available in the lobby after the meeting and that the district will formally recognize certain athletes again at a spring tenure/reception event.
