County finance report: $14.32M cash balances, foreclosures rising; board approves routine appointments and bills

Finance staff reported combined county cash balances of $14,320,834.84 across the general fund and the delinquent tax fund and reviewed claims and notable payments.

Key figures highlighted in the reviewed claims and revenue-expenditure material included an estimated $73,000 MISAC replacement expense tied to child-welfare information systems, a $55,422 furniture-install payment for central dispatch, a principal-and-interest payment of $99,351, and various smaller items such as vault-toilet repairs and toilet-rebuild kits. The treasurer said interest earnings are holding steady and that the county is in the foreclosure cycle with roughly 30 properties expected to be auctioned, higher than a typical year.

Appointments and procedural business: The board reappointed Jess Godley to a two-year term on the Michigan Works workforce development board by voice vote. The board also approved motions to return to the regular meeting for the purpose of paying bills and then authorized payment as part of routine business. Commissioners were informed that some decisions taken at the meeting will require budget adjustments in July or at the first August meeting.
