Barry County Medical Control Authority praises highly trained medical first responders

Dana Yarger, representing the Barry County Medical Control Authority (MCA), spoke to the board about the county’s EMS capabilities on June 24, noting that many townships make transport decisions but highlighting the strong skills of medical first responders.
Yarger said Barry County MFRs are trained to perform interventions that can begin patient care before a transporting ambulance arrives: epinephrine for allergic reactions, Narcan for overdoses, diabetic testing and initial treatment, stroke assessment and airway management including supraglottic airway insertion. She also praised their CPR, calling it the county’s best.
Yarger urged the board to remember that while transporting agency decisions are important, highly trained non‑transporting first responders play a critical role in stabilizing patients and relaying vital information to incoming agencies.
