The Elwood Union Free School District Board of Education approved several business items at its meeting, including accepting a $1,525 donation from the Elwood Booster Club to purchase a laminator for Harley Avenue Primary School, adopting three policies on second reading, agreeing to participate in outside social-media litigation, and voting to reenter executive session to discuss personnel.
Dr. Siddiqui presented the donation from the Elwood Booster Club and moved that the board accept the $1,525 gift; the motion carried by voice vote, 5-0. The consent agenda later approved by the board included the districtwide safety plan, notification of new employees and the district's decision to join a social-media-related lawsuit handled by the "France Law Group," as recorded in the meeting.
On policy, the board approved second reading and adoption of policy 4710 (grading systems), policy 4740 (honor rolls) and policy 4742 (high school valedictorian and salutatorian). A board member noted that no changes had been made since the first reading; the motion to adopt the policies carried 5-0.
At the close of the meeting, the board moved to reenter an executive session for discussion of personnel matters; that motion was seconded and approved 5-0.
