The Elwood Board unanimously accepted a donation of 90 Guardian football caps from the John Glenn Football Alumni Association at its Sept. 11 meeting.
"Be it resolved that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board of education hereby accepts the John Glenn Football Alumni Association's donation with gratitude of 90 guardian football caps," read mister Scurrola during the meeting. He explained the caps are a soft-shell exterior attached to helmets to reduce the impact of potential concussive blows, and the donation was valued at $5,100 for varsity, junior varsity and middle school programs.
A motion to approve the donation was made by missus Weiss and seconded by doctor Siddiqui; the board voted 5-0 in favor.
During the residents' remarks, Howard Roisman asked whether the guardian caps are intended for game use or practice use. The presiding officer said the district's athletic director, mister Shanahan, is the point person and the administration would follow up the next day rather than speculate.
The board did not take a formal vote about usage at the meeting and asked the athletic director or administration to provide clarification to the resident.
