Gloversville High to roll out Yonder pouches; district adopts code-of-conduct update

Christina Liss, the high school principal, briefed the board on the rollout of Yonder pouches and related code-of-conduct changes.
Liss said the pouches had arrived on campus and that implementation would begin Tuesday the 15th. Each student entering campus will be provided a pouch daily; pouches will not go home unless a student chooses to lease or purchase one. Liss said the purchase/lease fee would be $30 and that the district would refund the money if the pouch is returned at year's end.
She described accommodations for students with medical needs: for example, a student using a Dexcom device for diabetes would be provided a Velcro pouch so the student could access necessary medical equipment. Liss said magnets would be available so staff could release pouches in emergencies and that students with senior privileges or leaving campus for CTE would have pouches unlocked when appropriate.
The superintendent noted that a hearing on the code-of-conduct change was held at 6 p.m. with no attendees, and the board adopted the updated code of conduct regarding Yonder pouches that evening.
The principal also acknowledged some student concerns and said administration would communicate expectations and provide demonstrations and training in class meetings prior to full rollout.
