Pulaski Road students present STEM and leadership projects at board meeting

Fourth graders from Pulaski Road Elementary showcased classroom STEM projects, leadership activities and community service during the Dec. 12 board meeting; the board also recognized an English language arts student of the year.
Students from Pulaski Road Elementary and school staff presented student work and belonging initiatives to the board on Dec. 12, highlighting STEM, SHARE leadership, multicultural resources and service projects.
Principal Beekman invited students and showcased the school's personalized learning approach, teacher‑led professional development (more than 150 hours) and programs such as 5‑minute mentors and a multicultural library. Fourth grader Kyle Labretto described the STEM lab and a robotics activity: "You may have heard about our STEM program, which we call science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. I just call it cool," he told trustees.
Other students — Carter Kim, Zoe Colmenares and Quinn Pihanek among them — described leadership activities, clubs, and service projects (including a food donation line that supported Long Island charities). Rianna De Palma, district chair for English language arts and libraries, introduced Kaylee Cizik as the district English Language Arts student of the year; Kaylee described her relationship with her English teachers and plans to study law.
Board members thanked students and staff; the presentations were followed by student‑organization reports from Northport Student Union and a district recognition segment that included athletic and arts accomplishments.
