At its Nov. 21 meeting, the Northport-East Northport Board of Education approved the appointment of a new principal for Northport Middle School and recognized recent retirements and long service by district staff.

During agenda review a trustee moved to bundle several items in section 11 while separating item 11.02 (the principal appointment) for distinct recognition and vote. The board discussed the timing and budget implications of filling administrative positions amid a declining-enrollment context. After discussion, the board voted on the appointment (agenda item 11.02) and the motion passed unanimously.

The board also recognized custodian Brian Farrell for 15 years of service (effective Jan. 2) and congratulated retiring administrators named in the meeting packet. Trustees noted that an administrative reorganization plan will be presented at the Dec. 12 business meeting in response to retirements and longer-term budget planning related to declining enrollment.

The motion to bundle other items passed as proposed; where required, the administration will present details at the next meeting.
