Riverhead board approves consent agenda: new middle school principal, contracts, field trips and donations

At its Sept. 10 meeting the Riverhead Central School District Board of Education approved a broad consent agenda that included personnel appointments, contracts, field trips and donations.
The appointment of Kellyanne Parlato as Riverhead Middle School principal was announced and approved by the board. "So thank you Kellyanne. Getting to your new role and good luck," the board said on the record.
Consent items approved included award of contracts for district newsletter printing; a contract with Just Kids Early Childhood Learning Center; and a consultant agreement with ICON Systems (identified on the agenda as associated with Mr. Chris Amato). The board also approved a contract with the Butterfly Effect Project. When a board member asked whether the Butterfly Effect Project was funded through COVID-era grants, administration replied that it is funded through Title grants within the consolidated/entitlement grant structure and is ongoing rather than an ARP/COVID terminal grant.
The board approved two field trips: up to 28 varsity boys’ and girls’ cross-country athletes to the Ocean State XC invitational at Goddard Park in Warwick, R.I., and approximately 90 Riverhead Middle School Music Ensemble students to compete at the High Note Music Festival at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey.
Donations accepted by the board included a $5,000 gift from Burlington Stores/AdoptAClassroom.org to Phillips Avenue Elementary School, 50 backpacks and other school supplies from the Riverhead Rotary, and 43 books donated in partnership with the Riverhead Civic Association (a list of the donated books was included in the meeting attachment).
Motions to approve the consent items were made and seconded per the meeting record and voted on individually or as included in the consent package; the record shows the motions carried. Board members thanked donors and staff for their work supporting students.
What happens next: Approved contracts and field trips will proceed under the terms recorded in district documents; donations will be distributed to the named schools and programs.
