Christian County: nearly $3 million in FEMA aid reported after April storms; debris pickup continues

Emergency Manager Randy Graham briefed the Christian County Fiscal Court on June 24 about federal disaster response and local cleanup operations following April tornadoes and flooding.
Graham said FEMA had registered 404 applicants from the county and ‘‘FEMA has provided $1,996,000’’ in one category and ‘‘They’ve also issued $970,000 in repair money,’’ which he summarized as ‘‘nearly $3,000,000’’ in FEMA assistance. He told residents who receive denials to call the county office at (270) 887‑6253 so staff can help because some denials result from applicants selecting the wrong disaster or failing to submit required insurance paperwork.
On debris management, Graham said countywide debris collection and staging are underway with one centrally‑utilized site being used by the road department, state highway and municipal public works. He said green‑waste staging is being prepared for a planned burn targeted to conclude around July and that design and engineering remain in progress for larger reconstruction projects that require FEMA plan review and approval before construction.
Court members thanked volunteers and staff for debris pickup and support in heavily impacted neighborhoods including River Bend Extension and Lovers Lane. Graham urged residents to contact his office for assistance with FEMA denials and paperwork.
