Magoffin County judge urges residents to keep social distancing after county tops state for reduced movement

Wyman emphasized that the ranking does not allow complacency and urged residents to continue following CDC and governor guidance on social distancing. Relaying what he heard on a conference call with the governor, Wyman said, "The governor said today, we are in crunch time. The next 2 to 3 weeks are crucial to flattening the curve." He said the governor identified two tools to fight the virus: social distancing and increasing testing capability.
Wyman compared current Kentucky case counts to New York’s trends and noted that if Kentucky matched New York’s rate it would have more than 7,000 cases; instead, he said, the state had about 250 cases at the time of his update and that case totals "went up another 50 today." He said that was why residents must remain committed to staying home and limiting in-person contacts.
Addressing constituent concerns, Wyman said some local health-care workers received letters labeling them "essential" that appeared to come from out-of-state corporate headquarters. He relayed the governor’s clarification that the National Guard would not be sent to patrol streets or check credentials and that the Guard would be used for medical or support functions as needed.
Wyman closed with a directive to keep social circles small and to follow public-health guidance, and he provided the judge’s office phone number for questions and assistance.
