Bracken County court approves $1,303.31 contribution to switch senior center doors to metal

Bracken County Fiscal Court voted to approve two change orders for the county—DBG-funded senior center renovation and authorized a $1,303.31 county contribution to install metal exterior doors.

Sierra O'Call of the Buffalo Trace Area Development District told the court the contractor and architect requested the change to metal doors "for safety, durability, and longevity." She said the two change orders total $3,228.31 (change order 3: $2,715.20; change order 4: $513.11) and that previously approved funds left a credit. "With the application of credit from where the previous change orders came in less ... Bracken County fiscal court will need $1,303 and 31 to put in the steel doors rather than the wood doors," O'Call said.

Magistrate Craig Miller moved to approve the pair of change orders; Debbie Mayfield seconded. The court voted by roll call and the motion passed. After the vote O'Call confirmed she would sign and return the paperwork after the meeting.

The work is part of the county's CDBG renovation project for the senior center and the adjacent community center. County members asked whether Perkins Carmack is the general contractor; O'Call confirmed Perkins Carmack is handling the contracts and submitting the change orders. O'Call also updated the court that the BEAD broadband award has not yet been announced and that the Office of Broadband Development and NTIA guidance are still pending.

Next steps: paperwork will be signed and filed following the meeting, and county staff will process the county's $1,303.31 share to proceed with the metal door installation.
