Interim superintendent outlines staff reassignments, cites UPK and consolidated grants

Interim Superintendent Cheryl Petosic used the July 2 board meeting to summarize administrative reorganizations and explain how state and federal grants are funding some staffing changes.
Petosic said a facilitator position in the Northstar program will become an assistant principal role beginning in September to align the program more closely with the evening academy. "That will also allow the high school team to be kept in place," Petosic said, adding that an additional stipend will accompany the expanded responsibilities.
She described the former assistant superintendent for elementary education position (held by Dr. Kerner through June 30) being restructured to an executive-director-level post that will concentrate on elementary and UPK programming rather than the wider set of duties previously assigned. Petosic also said a registration facilitator who had served as the McKinney-Vento liaison will become the director of registration and student services to provide focused attention to residency and McKinney-Vento responsibilities.
Those moves, Petosic said, were possible in part because the district was able to incorporate some staff into the UPK expansion grant and move one teacher on special assignment into a Title III role under the consolidated grant program. She cited that "37% of our student population receive E and L services" as context for adding an assistant director for E and L Services, Community Outreach and DEI to support Dr. Sands and the district’s work in that area.
The board did not take separate binding votes on these specific staffing restructures at the meeting beyond approving the broader annual contracts and related job approvals that were included in the consent and new-business items.
Board members asked for clarification about funding sources and the structure of roles; Petosic responded that the district used entitlement grants where appropriate and that some positions carry stipends tied to their expanded responsibilities.
