Riverhead board swears in members, elects officers and appoints clerk; interim superintendent outlines reorganization

The board also appointed Dawn (recorded on the transcript as Dawn Bazakhowski) as district clerk; the appointment was moved, seconded and approved and the clerk then repeated the oath administered by counsel.
Interim Superintendent Cheryl Petosic, sworn in earlier in the meeting, opened her brief report with congratulations to graduating students and later described several administrative changes to the district’s leadership and staffing structure. She explained that a facilitator position in the Northstar program will be elevated to an assistant principal role in September and that the former assistant superintendent for elementary education position (held by Dr. Kerner through June 30) will be restructured as an executive-director-level role focusing on elementary and UPK programs.
Petosic said an existing registration facilitator who also served as the McKinney-Vento liaison will be reclassified as director of registration and student services to concentrate on residency and McKinney-Vento responsibilities. "This will also allow the high school team to be kept in place," Petosic said, describing the changes as intended to "better serve the school district as we move forward." She added that grant funding, including UPK expansion and consolidated Title grants, supported some of the staff recalls and reassignments.
The board opened nominations for president and vice president. James Scudder was nominated for board president and the board declared the nominations closed and the vote unanimous. Virginia Healy was nominated and elected vice president unanimously; both were administered the oath of office during the meeting.
The meeting concluded after routine business was completed and multiple procedural motions were approved without significant dissent. The board adjourned following the scheduled items.
