Board highlights student turnaround and honors custodian, advisor at Kenmore meeting

At the Sept. 10 board meeting, the Kenmore-Tonawanda district recognized three members of the Kenmore Junior Senior High community for achievement and service.
The board honored senior student Alayah Hampton of Crossroads Academy for academic progress: presenters said Hampton improved from 5.5 credits to 14.5 credits and passed three Regents exams, putting her back on track to graduate with the class of 2025. The board and audience applauded her turnaround and the district presented a certificate and a commemorative T-shirt.
The board also recognized Tommy Wagner, described in the presentation as a senior custodian at Kenmore Junior Senior High for the past two years. The presenter praised Wagner’s solutions-oriented approach and said he helps maintain the district’s century-old building.
Matthew (Matt) Levine was celebrated for five years as the Big Picture advisor for the class of 2025. The district noted his contributions to advisory culture, community-building activities, overnight trips and committee work including DEI initiatives.
Speakers invited recipients’ families forward for photos and described the recognitions as part of an ongoing monthly series spotlighting a student, a teacher and a support staff member from district schools. The recognitions preceded the board’s centennial presentation and a short recess.
