During the meeting the board was surprised with a presentation marking School Board Appreciation Week and the close of Hispanic Heritage Month. Bilingual department staff described a districtwide book of "I am" poems that includes entries from students, teachers and administrators. Staff thanked the board for support of bilingual and ENL programs and encouraged continued family participation.
A first-grade student invited to the podium read a poem about cultural roots and family. The presentation team presented the student with a certificate and small gifts and posed for a photograph with board members. Presenters noted a display in the building of student and administrator work from the contest and encouraged broader participation next year.
