Mercer County updates construction projects; board approves change order for new elementary

King Middle School bathrooms: Unidentified Speaker 5 reported the King Middle School bathroom renovations are ahead of schedule and expected to finish next Friday; all five bathrooms are slated to be complete before students return.
New elementary and site work: Unidentified Speaker 5 and Unidentified Speaker 6 (construction representative) described ongoing blasting at the new elementary site and mass-earthwork progress. Speaker 6 said the project was about four to six weeks from completing blasting and described staged field installations (a 30% portion installed and additional sections to follow).
Change order: The board considered Change Order 1 for the new elementary project related to an electrical-panel redesign that increased cost because the contractor’s submittal included additional changes beyond contract documents. Unidentified Speaker 6 explained the design-team review and that the electrical engineer’s submittal included modifications not shown in the original contract documents, producing the cost increase. After board discussion the change order was approved by roll call.
Other projects and closeouts: Staff reviewed closing older project accounts (one showing $160,275.01 remaining from a 2013 project) and noted $382,000 remaining in an athletics project account; staff said closing these old BG accounts will free funds for current ceiling and painting work and other projects.
