The Sachem Central School District Board of Education approved routine business at its Nov. 6 meeting, carrying motions to accept the Oct. 23 minutes and multiple consent agenda items covering personnel, contracts, donations and committee actions.
During the public session the board approved personnel items for teachers and support staff, including motions moved and seconded with votes recorded as carried. The board recognized two teacher assistants (Sandra Braun and Karen Boccakalupa) for receiving tenure, announced the upcoming retirement of custodian Nick Malerba and senior office assistant Joanne Spencer, and congratulated Alyssa Hall on a promotion to the district's purchasing office.
The board accepted a donation noted as anonymous and earmarked for a canine-with-companion program and approved committee actions including appointments to the committee on special education. No roll-call vote tallies by member were recorded in the public transcript; each motion was announced and recorded as "motion is carried."
Near the end of the public meeting the board voted to enter executive session to discuss a grievance, an update on June Avenue, battery plant litigation, a student appeal and possible litigation related to a retaining wall collapse at East End; the motion carried and the public session concluded.
