Superintendent Trumbetta apologized at the Sachem Central School District board meeting on Sept. 10 for ongoing bus delays that have affected elementary routes in recent days. The superintendent said district staff and contracted bus companies are investigating the causes and working to adjust feeder patterns and pickup times, especially for Route 361 and a repeatedly late Waverly route.
In a brief presentation to the board, Trumbetta said the district has been contacting families and bus companies and that transportation staff have been updating parents directly. She said administrators are examining whether buses that travel out of district for certain high‑school runs are creating cascading late arrivals for elementary routes and that revised schedules should reduce conflicts.
Board members and transportation staff described the response as ongoing. Administration said it has reached out to affected families and will continue daily updates while it tests new pickup windows; no formal policy change or new vendor contract was announced at the meeting. The board asked staff to follow up with specifics about which routes are impacted and to report back if the changes do not solve the delays.
The meeting made no formal finding about liability or contract breach; the superintendent framed the work as an operational fix and apologized to families for the disruption.
