Sachem students honored as top Long Island Polar Plunge team after raising $32,000 for Special Olympics

Rebecca Hoffman, director of development at Special Olympics New York, thanked Team Sachem for its support and presented the school group with the organization’s 2024 Cool School Challenge championship trophy.
"They did it their best year yet by raising over $32,000," Hoffman said, noting Team Sachem’s fundraising benefits athletes across Long Island and the state. She introduced students and staff who participated in the Polar Plunge and called Team Sachem a role‑model school for its athletics and fundraising.
Superintendent Trombetta and board members recognized participating students and coaches, noting the team included almost 60 members and that not all could attend the meeting. The district congratulated the team and encouraged community support for inclusion efforts promoted by Special Olympics New York.
