Summary
At its Aug. 22 meeting the Board approved a slate of consent-agenda personnel actions, appointed Nicholas Scott as assistant principal at Brentwood High School freshman campus through 2028, directed a medical capacity exam under Education Law §913, and authorized execution of a settlement agreement and general release regarding an instructional employee.
The Brentwood Union Free School District Board of Education approved routine consent-agenda items and several personnel actions during its Aug. 22 meeting, including the appointment of an assistant principal and authorization of a settlement agreement.
Trustee Brandon Garcia moved several consent-agenda motions that were seconded and approved by voice vote. Among the approvals, the Board resolved to appoint Nicholas Scott to a four-year probationary term as assistant principal at Brentwood High School’s freshman campus, effective 08/23/2024 through 08/22/2028, in the tenure area of secondary assistant principal with compensation set by the BPSO collective bargaining agreement.
The Board also passed a resolution to rescind a tenure appointment conferred on Feb. 15, 2024 for an instructional staff member identified in confidential Schedule A; the motion was moved and seconded and approved by voice vote. The Board authorized the president to enter into an agreement with Susan Averso and the Brentwood Principals and Supervisors Organization for the position of school medical director for the 2024–25 school year, including compensation arrangements described in the meeting packet.
Separately, pursuant to Education Law §913, the Board directed a specified employee to report for a medical examination to determine their capacity to perform duties; Dr. Randall Solomon was named as the examiner, with an appointment scheduled for Aug. 28, 2024, at 9:15 a.m.
The Board also reviewed and approved a settlement agreement and general release concerning an instructional employee and authorized the superintendent and board president to execute the agreement on the Board’s behalf.
What happened at the meeting: motions on personnel and contract matters were moved and seconded by trustees, called for voice votes, and recorded as approved. The meeting packet referenced confidential Schedule A for personnel identities in some actions, consistent with board practice for personnel confidentiality.
Next steps: the appointed assistant principal’s probationary term begins Aug. 23, 2024. The district will execute the authorized settlement agreement and proceed with the medical examination on Aug. 28 as described.
