Prineville honors two residents for helping officer during July arrest

Interim Prineville Police Chief Shane Wilson honored Nathan Gregory and Marcy Thomas at the City Council meeting for stepping in to help Officer Daniel Yanes during a July arrest.
Wilson said bodycam footage from the incident captured a voice saying, “I will not let you hurt him,” and described how the subject lunged toward a passenger-seat firearm while fighting with the officer. Wilson told the council that officers later recovered three firearms and drugs from the vehicle and that the subject is a known felon with an extensive history. “Nathan and Marcy disregarded their own safety to help an officer in need,” Wilson said as he presented plaques.
Wilson said the citizens’ actions likely prevented further harm and allowed Officer Yanes to return home to his family. The council offered public thanks and applause; Wilson noted the risks law-enforcement officers face daily and said the department appreciates community members who assist in critical moments.
The presentation was ceremonial; no formal council action beyond the recognition took place.
