Cohen said school counselors directed his daughter to change her schedule to pursue an advanced diploma; she took more difficult classes, lost social time and sleep, and then was handed a general diploma at graduation. He told the board he repeatedly contacted the counseling department and principals and felt ignored, and he said the issue could affect his son who is still in school.
Board members and administrators acknowledged receipt of his communications and reminded Cohen that there is a confidential administrative process for student and personnel matters; the transcript does not show a final resolution or any formal corrective action taken during the meeting.
The board chair reminded commenters that public comment is not a forum for debating individual student or personnel issues and that confidentiality rules apply. Cohen said he would continue to pursue the matter if it is not resolved administratively.
