The Fluvanna County School Board voted to award the Central Elementary bathroom remodel contract to Hailey Builders after amending the agenda to include the contract award as action item 13C.
Superintendent (as recorded) said the RFP was advertised Aug. 1, with a pre-bid meeting Aug. 23 and a Sept. 20 bid deadline. Only one contractor submitted a proposal; staff reviewed references and recommended moving ahead to expedite the work. "There was only one that chose to submit a bid," the superintendent said, and staff confirmed reference checks were positive.
Board members noted the county provided carryover funding for the work last year of $488,000 and that Hailey Builders’ bid of $319,912 is within that funding. Board Member 6 said he read the proposal between closed session and the meeting and supported approving the recommendation given the single bid and that the amount was under budget. The motion to accept the bid was moved, seconded and approved by unanimous voice vote.
Superintendent staff estimated on-site work could begin as early as Oct. 28 if the board approved the award, with completion expected in June. The board asked staff to post the bid and contract in BoardDocs to ensure the public record includes the company name and dollar amount.
