Council approves two $10,000 agreements for minor home repairs to help residents age in place

The Excelsior Springs City Council unanimously approved two resolutions on Sept. 16 authorizing agreements to fund minor home‑repair services for local residents.

Neighborhood Specialist Laura Mize presented both items. She said the first agreement with Rebuilding Together Kansas City would provide $10,000 to support contractors who perform minor home repairs and modifications that help homeowners remain in their homes. "This agreement would provide $10,000 in funds that would enable them to help even more homeowners in the city," Mize said.

Mize described the second agreement with Northland Neighborhoods Inc., noting the organization assisted three homeowners in the previous year and used the city's prior allocation; the new agreement would again allocate $10,000 to expand assistance. She explained that applicants apply to each organization and that staff receive notifications when applicants meet program requirements.

Council moved, seconded and approved resolution 1526 (Rebuilding Together Kansas City) and resolution 1527 (Northland Neighborhoods Inc.) by roll call. Both approvals were recorded as unanimous.

Council members did not request additional modifications to the agreements during the meeting. The funding is intended to address minor repairs and modifications that enable aging in place and to follow identified best practices recommended by municipal and national organizations.
