Council approves $46,812 change order to add liquid suspension to three new ambulances

The Excelsior Springs City Council on Oct. 21 approved Resolution No. 1531 authorizing a change order on three ambulances ordered in February to add liquid suspension. Fire Chief Joe Maddock presented the request and said the department believes the suspension modification will resolve problems with the current ambulances and provide a smoother ride for patients. He told the council the total for the change order on all three units is $46,812.
Chief Maddock said the request was reviewed by the Public Safety Sales Tax Committee in September and that committee returned a recommendation with four yes votes and one no vote. "The quote is in your packet," Maddock said, and he invited questions; none were raised by council members during the meeting.
A council member moved to approve Resolution No. 1531; the motion received a second and the council approved the resolution by roll call with recorded yes votes from Councilman Saint John, Councilman McGovern, Mayor Pro Tem Speer and Mayor Mark Spahn.
The council did not attach additional conditions to the approval; Chief Maddock expressed thanks and the council recorded the resolution as approved. The change order is to be executed through existing procurement channels and incorporated into the ambulance purchase per the city's procurement and budgeting procedures.
