Council approves tax abatement for Other Trails Coffee building at 115 East Broadway

The Excelsior Springs City Council approved an ordinance authorizing a tax abatement for renovations at 115 East Broadway, the commercial building that houses Other Trails Coffee and Goods.
Neighborhood specialist Laura Mize presented the application from Jody and Linda Pasalich and said the work includes entryway and HVAC upgrades, interior improvements and courtyard work. “This tax abatement application and all the improvements were considered by the Historic Preservation Commission, as well as the Excelsior Springs Redevelopment Corporation and found to meet all the requirements needed,” Mize said. She told the council the project qualifies for Level A2, which provides a 100% abatement for 10 years or for the cost of the improvements. Projected expenditures were listed at $27,095.48.
The council opened a public hearing on the application; no members of the public spoke. After closing the hearing, the council moved the ordinance to second reading and approved it on final consideration by unanimous roll call.
The abatement is intended to support the property owners’ reinvestment in a downtown commercial building and to encourage continued use of the space for local business.
