The Essex County Board of Commissioners approved a federal aid agreement with the New Jersey Department of Transportation to reimburse construction costs for signalized intersection improvements at seven locations in Newark and Irvington totaling $8,283,420.
David Antonio of the Department of Public Works described the project scope, which includes signal improvements at intersections along Springfield Avenue and four new traffic signals at locations in Irvington and Newark, and said the agreement allows the county to be reimbursed for construction costs. “This grant reimbursement agreement will allow the County to be reimbursed for the construction cost of signalized intersection improvements ... in an amount of $8,283,420,” Antonio said.
County administration also presented a corresponding budget insertion recognizing the NJDOT funds. Commissioners moved and approved the resolution and the budget insertion by roll call.
Officials said the improvements include upgrades to existing signals and construction of four new traffic signals; the county described the work as intended to improve traffic management at the listed intersections. The board approved the agreement and associated budget action by roll call.
