Planning board approves Lakeside bleachers, press box to expand spectator capacity

The Pompton Lakes Planning Board on Oct. 15 advanced PB24-06, the final phase of the Lakeside field-improvement project, approving a resolution that the proposal is not inconsistent with the borough master plan.
Project engineer Faye Shi described plans to remove an existing asphalt area, install pile foundations to support bleachers approximately 130 feet long by 20 feet deep, and build an 8-by-18-foot press box. The design includes ADA access (ramp and stair), emergency/safety lighting required for an assembly structure and stone covering under the bleachers to secure maintenance access. "This layout is good for 500 spectators," the presenter said, while board members discussed typical Lakeside attendance of 400–500 for big games and noted that larger football games remain at Hershfield.
Board members asked about procurement lead time and installation timing. The project team said lead time for the bleacher system was discussed as between three and six months and that summer construction is the target so the seating will be available for the fall sports season.
Board discussion also covered how the bleachers will improve spectator safety by moving people off the fence line and provide better crowd control; members asked staff to coordinate any separate fencing that would separate parking from the bleacher area in a later phase. The board adopted resolution PB24-06 in the same roll-call action used for PB24-05.
What happens next: staff will proceed with bid documents and coordinate ADA and safety details during procurement. Exact costs and funding sources were not disclosed at the meeting.
