Architect presents lobby reception redesign; council tables $174,000 contract for later review

Bridgeton — Mary Anne Maxwell of Arc Images Architects presented a proposed lobby reception-desk redesign to the City Council on Nov. 20, describing built-in ballistic panels, two transaction windows and a sliding pass-through. Maxwell said construction documents were bid and the low bidder was Entegra; the recommended contract amount presented to council was $173,925 with a 25% contingency of $43,481.25.
"We came up with this built in ballistic panels in a linear design, which provides unobstructed views of the lobby," Maxwell said during her presentation and described protections to minimize dust and schedule work around council meetings. She added the contractor would stage materials before demolition so work could proceed without interfering with meetings.
Council read bill 64 66, which would authorize the mayor and city clerk to execute an agreement substantially in the form attached with Integra Inc. for the lobby reception area upgrades and council dais replacement in an amount of $173,925. The council moved to table the bill and voted to table it unanimously.
Council members asked about timing and disruption during meetings; Maxwell said the contractor would set temporary partitions, use protective flooring and coordinate schedules to avoid interfering with evening meetings.
Because bill 64 66 was tabled, no contract was approved at the meeting and the council can revisit the ordinance and procurement details at a later date.
