Mexico City Council approves resolutions on storm sewer mapping, tourism advertising, airport lease assignment and shelter trust distribution

At its June 24 meeting the Mexico City Council passed a series of resolutions authorizing staff to proceed on multiple administrative and capital items.
Storm sewer inventory: Council approved reading and passage of a resolution to authorize signing task order number 18 with Horner and Shiffrin to begin a five‑year, phased storm sewer inventory and mapping effort. John DePaulo said the work will develop a city inventory of storm piping to meet the municipal separate storm sewer (MS4) permit requirements and to help trace potential illicit discharges. The plan in the meeting record allocates $35,000 per year over five years for the effort.
Tourism advertising: The Mexico Tourism Commission recommended and council approved a resolution to contract with Missouri Life for a 12‑month advertising campaign at a recommended amount of $14,250 (three full‑page and three half‑page placements), a roughly 2.1% increase from the prior year. Roger Haines said the publication provides advertisers with response tracking and periodic reports.
Airport lease assignment: The council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to execute an assignment of an existing hangar lease at Mexico Memorial Airport to Green Mile LLC. Staff explained the lease rent is based on hangar size and includes mandatory review every five years; the assignment carries forward the previously negotiated lease terms.
Trust distribution for animal shelter: Staff reported receiving notification from Gail Wooldridge, trustee of the Glenn E. Robley Trust, that the Mexico Animal Shelter is a beneficiary and would be entitled to a distribution referenced in the meeting record as $126,000. The resolution accepted the distribution and sets the funds to be used only at the city shelter, with the city required to provide accounting of fund usage.
Claims, payments and other routine business: Council approved claims/payments and heard brief council comments, including concern about a foreclosed hospital property that has had utilities shut off and about neighborhood maintenance. The council then moved toward adjournment.
