Council renews SRO agreement with Mexico School District and approves three on-call engineering contracts

The Mexico City Council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to enter into a renewed agreement with the Mexico School District to provide additional police services through the SRO program. Chief Mesko told the council the resolution funds 1 full-time and 1 part-time school resource officer; the school district will fund the positions. One councilmember indicated they would abstain from the vote.
Separately, the council authorized three related three-year on-call engineering contracts. Staff said the city used a qualifications-based selection process that produced eight respondents; Bartlett West, Engineering Surveys and Services LLC, and Horner and Schiffrin (naming in the packet) were recommended as the top three firms. Staff described these contracts as master service agreements under which task orders will be issued; routine purchase-policy thresholds (e.g., council review for tasks above a specified dollar amount) will remain in effect.
Staff cited prior work by the firms, including design work on a Lakeview spillway, assistance on the trickling filter and geometric designs for intersections. The council moved, read, and recorded affirmative roll-call votes to adopt the SRO resolution and to authorize the three engineering contracts.
Next steps: City manager to execute agreements; staff will use the on-call master agreements to issue task orders and return to council for review on higher-value tasks.
