Council at a glance: tourism funding, stormwater agreement, sewer reroute and executive session

Following the budget adoption, the Mexico City Council handled several routine items and staff recommendations on Aug. 26.
Tourism funding: The council concurred with the Mexico Tourism Commission and approved a resolution authorizing a $500 payment from tourism-tax funds to the Girls Night Out Relay for Life team for an Oct. 25 event at the Knights of Columbus. Staff presented the commission's recommendation and the council moved and voted to pass the resolution.
Stormwater maintenance agreement: City staff recommended acceptance of a stormwater maintenance agreement with CBTMSES LLC for Park Creek Subdivision Phase 2, noting the requirement stems from Missouri Department of Natural Resources rules for disturbances over 1 acre. Staff said the agreement assigns perpetual maintenance responsibility for on-site best-management practices (a detention basin). Council moved for reading and passage of the resolution and voted to approve it.
Sanitary sewer repair and cost-sharing: Staff reported a collapsed sewer line at 1414 Briarwood Place and presented two repair options: repair in place (which would disturb an on-site water feature) or reroute with minimal disturbance. The cost difference between options was $12,000. The Hertel family agreed to pay the $12,000 difference and has provided funds; staff recommended and the council authorized proceeding with Plan B (reroute), with an easement to be provided.
Executive session: Near the meeting's end, a councilmember moved to adjourn into executive session pursuant to Revised Statutes of Missouri section 610.021 to discuss personnel matters; the council voted in the affirmative by roll call.
