Council accepts TAP grant for Muldrow Street sidewalk reconstruction

The Mexico City Council on July 22 approved an ordinance to accept a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) grant from the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for sidewalk reconstruction along Muldrow Street.
City staff said the TAP award covers the majority of the project, which will run both sides of Muldrow between Buchanan and the boulevard, completing sidewalk reconstruction along that corridor as phase 3 of the project. Staff reported the total project cost at $371,066.31 and said the TAP program requires a 20% local cost share, which staff estimated at about $74,000.
Council discussed the TAP grant schedule and a required deadline for spending the funds; staff said the grant must be spent by a 2026 deadline and paperwork must be completed in time to meet the program schedule. Staff noted the funds are administered through Federal Highway programs and stressed the need to get award paperwork completed to avoid jeopardizing the grant.
The council read Bill No. 2020-0442 by title and voted to accept the TAP award and authorize the city manager to sign agreement documents necessary to secure the grant.
